Crossing the Boundaries Landcare Centre, is located at 93 Southwest Highway, Waroona. Established in April 1999 the Centre supports Landcare in the southern Peel-Harvey coastal plain. Project partners are:

  • Coolup Land Conservation District
  • Harvey River Land Conservation District
  • Shire of Waroona
  • Shire of Harvey
  • Shire of Murray
  • Harvey River Restoration Trust
  • With support from the Departments of Agriculture and Environment

The Crossing the Boundaries Landcare Centre provides a key link between the community and the development and delivery of natural resource management [NRM] policy and funding.

The Centre provides office space for the Landcare Development Officer, Landcare Support Officer and the Harvey River Restoration Trust [HRRT] Rivercare Officer. These staff are funded through NHT, the HRRT with support from the Shires of Murray and Waroona.

The Centre acts as a resource and equipment base for the community and provides meeting room facilities. The staff employed at the Centre work closely with the community, including schools, and provide technical support, raise awareness, build community capacity in regard to a range of NRM activities and issues; and provide administrative support for community groups to engage in the regional, and other funding processes such as NHT, NAP, Envirofunds, NGO grants, State Government grants programmes etc.

The Centre supports the planning and implementation of on-ground activities that are carried out by private landholders, community groups on public land and Local Government. Each year local and Perth schools get the chance to get down and dirty by growing and/or planting seedlings for revegetation projects. These activities include but are not limited to revegetation, streamlining [fencing & revegetation of riparian areas], protection of bush land, wetland enhancement, stock crossings and off-stream watering points.

Since the late 1980s the Centre has undertaken extensive streamlining and revegetation programmes. The Centres also co-ordinates the delivery of field days, workshops and seminars; working in partnership with State Government agencies, industry and the community.
