MANDURAH COMMUNITY LANDCARE AND FRoGS
The City of Mandurah, with contributing funding provided by the National Heritage Trust and National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality (joint initiatives of the Australian and Western Australian Governments, administered by the South West Catchments Council) in partnership with the Peel-Harvey Catchment Council has employed a Community Landcare Officer to develop, engage and empower the local Mandurah community to take an active role in the preservation of the natural resources of the City of Mandurah. A first for the Peel-Harvey catchment, this urban evolution of Landcare is proving very successful with many volunteers now involved under the City's Bushcare and Coastcare programs. In its first year the City of Mandurah Community Landcare initiative is focusing on establishing and supporting Friends of Reserve Groups (FRoGs) to assist in the implementation of approved management plans for the following reserves:
In addition the Community Landcare Officers' role includes assisting with community education and awareness programs and assisting with the Coastcare activities that are undertaken within the City of Mandurah. For further information about the City of Mandurah's Community Landcare Project, or for details about how you can get involved, download a Bushcare or Coastcare brochure or please contact the Community Landcare Officer, Lisa Wray at the City of Mandurah on (08) 9550 3777.
