Community Landcare SupportLandcare Centres provide the focal point for community-based projects across the Peel-Harvey Catchment. There are currently four community Landcare Centres:
in operation within the Peel-Harvey Catchment and a Community Landcare Officer based at the City of Mandurah. The Centres provide a key link between the community and the development and delivery of natural resource management policy and funds. They provide office space for support staff, and act as a resource and equipment base for the community. Staff employed at the Centres work closely with the community and provide technical support, raise awareness and build community capacity in regard to a range of NRM activities and issues. They also provide administrative support for community groups to engage in the regional, and other funding processes such as NHT, NAP, Envirofunds, Non Government Organisation grants, and State Government grants programmes. The Centres support the planning and implementation of on-ground activities conducted by Local Government, private landholders and community groups on public land. These activities include revegetation, streamlining (fencing & revegetation of riparian areas), protection of bushland, weed control, litter removal, wetland enhancement, to name but a few of the diverse projects undertaken. The Centres also co-ordinate the delivery of field days, workshops and seminars; working in partnership with State Government agencies, industry and the community. |
